Drum Buddies Paired Lessons – FAQ
1. How will you decide who each student is paired with?
I will carefully match students based on age, ability level, learning style, and male/female pairing to ensure the lessons are balanced, productive, and fun for both students.
2. Will lessons still be tailored to the student's individual learning needs?
Absolutely. While students will work alongside a buddy, each student's strengths and areas for development will still be addressed, ensuring individual progress within the paired format.
3. How often will paired lessons take place?
Paired lessons will follow the same schedule as your current lesson day and time, unless a mutually convenient adjustment is needed once a suitable buddy is found. New students without a current fixed weekly lesson will be scheduled in on sign up.
4. What happens if students or their buddy misses a lesson?
We’ll handle absences the same way as one-to-one lessons. If one student misses, the lesson can be adjusted to maintain learning for the attending student.
5. Will students still progress through the Rockschool grades at the same pace?
Yes. All students will continue to follow the Rockschool Drum syllabus and work toward their exam grades. The paired format simply adds extra fun, motivation, and performance practice.
6. Can I request a specific buddy?
While I aim to create the best matches based on ability, age, and learning style, I’m happy to consider reasonable requests and discuss potential pairings.
7. How will you manage differences in ability if the buddy is slightly stronger or weaker?
Lessons are structured to ensure both students are challenged appropriately. Activities are tailored to each student's level, so everyone progresses confidently.
8. Will the lesson cost change compared to one-to-one sessions?
Whilst receiving the additional benefits of learning in paired lessons, prices will remain the same. Many students find the paired lessons provide an even richer lesson experience while still achieving progress.
9. What happens if the pairing doesn’t work out?
If a pairing isn’t successful, we can reassess and find a better match or revert to one-to-one lessons where available, ensuring student's learning remains positive and productive.
10. How will you ensure lessons stay fun and productive for both students?
Lessons include partner challenges, mini-goals, and performance exercises that encourage collaboration, friendly competition, and engagement, while keeping learning on track.
11. Will the lessons still include the same syllabus and exam preparation?
Yes, all paired lessons follow the Rockschool Drum syllabus. Exam recordings will now be booked separately, away from lesson time, and the paired format enhances progress and performance skills without changing exam preparation.
12. How long will each paired lesson be compared to one-to-one lessons?
Lesson length will remain the same as your current session. If I feel you would now benefit from a longer lesson, I will be in touch. This ensures full coverage of the syllabus and individual attention.
13. Can students switch back to one-to-one lessons later if needed?
Yes. If at any point the paired format isn’t the best fit, students can return to one-to-one lessons where available with no disruption to syllabus progress.
14. Will students get the same amount of individual attention in a paired lesson?
Yes. Each lesson is structured so that both students receive focused guidance, with activities alternating between solo work, buddy practice, and joint challenges.
15. How will you measure progress in paired lessons compared to solo lessons?
Being part of Rockschool as an Associate Tutor means monitoring student progress through Rockschool’s Summative Assessments, with overall exam success reviewed annually. The rockschool.io platform will help track student sign-up and retention, ensuring consistent standards for each student. Progress is also tracked individually using the Rockschool syllabus, lesson goals, and performance tasks. The paired element adds motivation and practice in a collaborative setting, enhancing learning without losing focus on personal development.
